Hello, I asked a question about 2 months ago regarding a suncatcher I had started a couple years ago. I got one side soldered, (used way too much solder) then put project down. Now I want to finish it but did not know what to do. Was advised to jusst resolder it. I ried that yesterday and my solder iron would not pick up the old solder. The iron was hot enough. Does liquid flux get old? Should I wire brush the piece? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like the solder became tarnished. Try using steel wool first and re-flux it with a liquid flux and scrub it gently into the solder a bit. That should be enough to clean the solder. If it's not that badly tarnished try the liquid flux step. Another good item to clean the solder is one of those green scubby pads dipped in a little flux. Use gloves doing this way is reccomended  wink

Thank you for answering so quick. I will try that. Do you know if liquid flux gets old? I was taught by a friend of mine 15 years ago, but haven't worked on anything in years. I'm thinking about taking a class. Any help on the flux I'd appreciate.  american flag

Flux shouldn't get old unless something else was poured into the bottle.
