I recently completed this copper foil piece for a friend who works in the police department (hence the blue glass).  Mr. Baird was a big help to my wife and I while getting settled into our house (demolition, hauling stuff to the dump, a bunch of little honey-dos).  I appreciated everything he did for us and I thought this might be the best way to say "Thanks!".

Very nice work. What was the framing material you used? Appears to be  something matted with a bevelled edge.

Thank you.  He loved it.  Normally I would buy my friends some beer for helping out.  This time I decided to keep the beer and give him a personalized gift instead.

The frame is a homemade; made from poplar wood.  It was routed out in the back before I cut the wood to accept the stained glass.  I haven't been very happy with the off the shelf frames in the past so I decided that I would try to make my own going forward.

I like the way you did the letters!  It takes care of the cut lines in an interesting way without being intrusive.

That's why I got my router, to make frames for my glass. I haven't used it yet though, don't even have it set up yet. What bit did you use?

Bluesmaven - Sorry the the late reply.  I have been away for a bit.  For this frame, I used a table saw to notch out a 1/2 inset in the wood stock.  I have a router that I will probably will use in the future but I need to play around with it first.  I plan for the frame to overlap the stained glass piece by 1/2 inch all the way around when designing my stain glass on DragonFly.

Bluesmaven - Sorry for the late reply again.  I need to change my notification settings.  I always use came around the glass on the outside border for additional strength.
