Well here goes, I don't know the lingo for what I need to know and I'm still really new at all this so please don't laugh if this sounds absurd or incredibly simple. I've made a hanging lamp once before but it was a couple years ago, I'll add the pic, it's the red/brn/gold one. It has a "crossbar thingy" that goes through the middle and I'm wonder if I use it on a table lamp shade that is round if it works the same. Or even if someone can tell what I really need to use for this other project so the shade sits on the lamp base. What I've done is cut the fabric off a round shade and used the firm wire thingy and attached my glass onto it. I'll post a pic of the round lamp shade too. I want to make  lamp shades of whatever dimensions and shapes I see fit without being restricted. I'm just not sure what to use or look for  smack. Again I'm learning as I go and this round lamp is the 5th piece I've ever made *yikes*. I'm working on an other shade now and when I assemble it I really want the right pieces and not just something I've cut up from Walmart *LOL.
Thanks for looking and any suggestions would be great!

It could be a "spider" "vase cap" or "cross bar". All three work with round lamps. The spider and cross bar work for lamps with a crown.

I think I'm understanding it more now, a harp is placed around the socket area of the lamp base and the cross bar would be attachted to the harp and the glass shade. If I'm attatching the cross bar to a round shade is there a certain place I should lean towards attatching it for better balance? And in regards to the crossbar, is this something that I can cut to size?

Here's a picture of a cross bar...
Be sure to solder it firmly to the band.
The second picture might show it better.

After looking at the crossbar I'm thinking it won't cut to size will it *L. I'm going to google the spider you mentioned to look at. I do appreciate the time and responses!! With the right terms it gives me something to look for, somehow typing "thingy" doesn't work on google  point smiley, silly me.

Amber:
Spiders and crossbars can/must be cut to length with a hack saw. Some folks bend spider arms down where needed (instead of cutting) for more surface to solder to.

Vase caps are made in zillions of diameters and must be purchased to fit what you're making.

The harp is a frame that just holds up the shade by means of the hole in the cross bar or spider. It is not directly attached to the shade.
