Prairie Style lamp

  • I just finished this lamp for a friend.  It's similar to one I had previously done but I forgot to modify the pattern so more than one piece attaches to the lamp cap.  I had to run a twisted wire inside each corner for reinforcement.  Also, putting the panels together was a nightmare!  I used the grinder bit for angles but still am unhappy with the smoothness of the corners.  Not sure I will ever do another prairie style lamp!

  • BEAUTIFUL. Always wondered how hard those are to pull off.

    Very challenging, I guess. cutter<+>

  • I know what you mean by an assembly nightmare.  I'm trying my first lamp, a 6 panel one and joining the panels has just about beat me.   duh~~~
Oh well I'll figure it out.

  • Thank you for all the kind words.  It has actually grown on me and I think I may challenge myself at some point to create one for myself.  The bases are currently on sale at Glasscrafters.com.

  •  TH^^:) I was upset with my edges when I first did a lamp but after a couple of times I realized that as long as its mostly neat the black patina hides any edge imperfection very nicely. Black covers a multitude of sins! It looks great and don't stress too much about solder edges. Even in the case of multiple solder seams joining the cap I would still add wire to top cap and along the bottom edge just in case. The first time I did a panel lamp I made the pattern more complicated and my tape failed twice and the whole thing fell twice. I finally had to build a makeshift mold of sorts to hold the entire thing up while I joined the panels. Live and learn I suppose. Beautiful lamp though! Here is a pic of my lamp that I had to make the mold for.
